Role in the project "Learning Lives"

Part-time Research Fellow and member of the University of Leeds Lifelong Learning Institute research team. Specific responsibility for interviewing older adults aged 50+ and assisting with the analysis of the research data in respect of older age groups and its implications for career (i.e. learning, work, life) guidance.

Background & Expertise

Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University. Specific interestsi in labour market economics. Extensive experience in delivering and managing career guidance (West London, Leeds) and in advising on and inspecting government training programmes (Manpower Services Commission, DfES). Freelance researcher and consultant. Senior Consultant, Third Age Employment Network. Fellow, National Institute for Careers Education and Counselling, Cambridge. Visiting Associate, Centre for Guidance Studies, University of Derby. Extensive research experience and publications on guidance issues including young people, under-employed graduates, lone parents, less-qualified workers, TU learning representatives and older adults. Have recently focused on third age guidance, learning and employment issues. Managed the influential DfES research project, Challenging Age', for the Third Age Employment Network. This involved consultations with a large number of adults aged 45+ and made recommendations on learning, guidance and employment provision for older age groups. The report has proved influential both nationally and internationally.
