Role in the project "Learning Lives"
Researcher working on the collection and analysis of life history and longitudinal
'life-course' qualitative data, in particular interviewing learners in adult
education or who have consulted guidance organisations.
Background & Expertise
I have been an educational researcher since 1991 at the University of
Exeter, the Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Leeds,
having previously worked as a secondary school teacher and in market
research. Projects I have worked on have investigated: careers advice and
guidance for school pupil; vocational education and the transition from
school to work; teacher education; and workplace learning. Recently I was
part of the team for the phase one TLRP project 'Improving Incentives for
Learning in the Workplace' I have written articles for academic and
professional journals and was co-author with Phil Hodkinson and Andrew
Sparkes of 'Triumphs and Tears: young people, markets and the transition
from school to work.'
