Role in the project "Learning Lives"
Co-director, with particular responsibility within the project for overseeing
research into learning and work.
Background & Expertise
Has written widely on aspects of lifelong learning, with particular interests in
adult learning and social capital. His most recent books include Lifelong
Learning and the New Educational Order (Trentham) and Social Capital
(Routledge). He has advised a number of government bodies in Britain and
elsewhere, and was a member of the National Advisory Group on Continuing
Education and Lifelong Learning, whose report influenced the Green Paper,
The Learning Age. He works in the Institute of Education, University of
Stirling, where he directs the Division of Academic Innovation and Continuing
Education.
